A story is sometimes written less out of any real reaction to the viscera of life than it is written to relieve the anxieties of a writer
Sometimes the pen acts like a means of catharsis and reflects the mood or the state of mind of the writer. Writers - some of them I have known tend to lead an emotional life where they experience every fibre of their being and this makes them convey simple day to day instances with a power that affects the masses. For people like me who devote a few hours each day to read anything that maybe created- a writer is the ultimate guru.
Off late I read many powerful books, I call them powerful because they could invoke many emotions within me. There was a deeper message which spoke to me as I read and more importantly felt :) South of the border, west of the Sun and Sputnik Sweetheart by Murakami made me realise that dichotomy of existence is about the co-existence of pleasure and pain. Both these books had sooo much to give that its hard to describe. The author's interest in behavior, music and history acts as a pattern among the two books. For instance, I learnt about why gates were built out of the blood of dogs and bones of their ancestors in ancient China - This was to ensure that the soul of the city remains within the City. In a way the book also gave a message that if one has to make a significant difference one has to pay an equal price and sometimes contribute one's lifeblood to make an irreplaceable impact.
I read another book which will remain one of my favorites in the years to come - 'The world according to Garp' by Irving. This is a book on the life of a writer born to a world famous author who is successful for her autobiography which was the only book she ever wrote :) :) the subject becomes more and more interesting as we read through the influences in the author's life and how certain turn of events create a masterpiece. For some reason when I read this book, I thought about the parallels between lifes' of people especially in professions such as painting, writing etc and realise the deep melancholy they feel in the joy's that they create....
The Sword here is the state of a writer as he creates to recreate :):)
